Apple vs Samsung - Long Term Support Comparison!

When you look at smartphone coverage
generally it's in the weeks and months after the launch so everybody's talking about how the camera is how the performance is what kind of software it ships with but for an end consumer one very important aspect when buying a phone is the longevity which brand is gonna support the phone the longest how good is the brand gonna support it so today I'm gonna try to address that so we're taking a look at apple's flagship one of apple's flagships from 2015 and Samsung's flagship from 2015 so this is the iPhone SC versus the galaxy S7 edge in 2021 how do these perform and that should give us an idea of which brand supports their phone better so long term support Apple or Samsung let's find out

So how do we find out which brand has or rather offers better long term support well it's by looking at phones that have existed for a long term right so this is the galaxy S7 edge this phone launched in 2016 and this is the iPhone SC which launched in 2016 too so both of them had each brand's flagship chip for that year so what I'm gonna do right now is I've got a few apps lined up so I'm not gonna be doing an entire lap I'm just gonna open each app one by one and let's see which phone does it faster you know we see a lot of speed tests when a phone launches but now five years later which one's doing better so guys there's nothing in the background so first let's start with Facebook it was pretty close so let's jump into slow motion they open up at almost the same time so no difference here I'm gonna call this one a tie let's move on twitter these are all common apps that we use day to day a lot of us Samsung I mean there's no competition here we don't need to cut to slow motion Samsung is just faster Instagram up next so again Samsung seems to be much quicker at loading Instagram so no need for a slow-mo cut let's move on to YouTube and I did not hit it on the iPhone so let's do this again, again there's no competition here Samsung seems to be performing much much better

So okay we've seen enough with the third-party apps let's jump to the first party app see how they perform okay phone uh let's cut back to slo-mo I am guessing the iPhone SC was a little faster here enough messages okay this time I think it was the Samsung but let's just to be safe cut back to slo-mo and guys next one chrome or safari first party browsers I have the same uh website set up trick info loads up first on the Samsung cool enough camera last okay I did not hit it let's do that again much faster on the Samsung so hey I'm not even going to go into games because it's very obvious that the Samsung is much faster so I guess Samsung's done an excellent call yourself a youtuber what you thought that was an iPhone SC I swapped it to the 5s si I'm so sorry guys I'm so sorry uh you're gonna have to do this again so we're gonna go back to 2013 since it is the iPhone 5s and we're gonna pull up a Samsung galaxy Sand see how they've held up sorry about the goof up guys now just to be double sure we've got android lollipop on this phone launchers in 2013 they updated till 2014. This one has iOS 12.5.2 phone launches in 2013. iOS 12.5.2 technically came out a few months back but that's a security fix iOS 12 was somewhere in uh 2018. So from an overall software support perspective apple has done much much better now one of the things key things to note is that uh with older versions of software there are incompatibilities so if you see uh crash is a game that's available on iOS but not on android because this is lollipop a whole uh what is that seven versions before so it just doesn't run on android or rather it's not even available on the play store any which ways with all that said and done

Let's now see uh how fast these phones are as of today all right guys as you can see there's nothing in the background so let's start with Facebook first Samsung loads it up faster surprising that's great let's next move on to both of twitter are being really slow but I think hey we've got a clear winner okay let's get out of that and move on to Instagram and again it's the iPhone 5s 21 moving on to YouTube Samsung is back so that's two each okay let's not give subway surfers a shot Samsung did get to the loading screen first the actual loading I think the SC is going to do it let's see yes the SC is ready and Samsung takes a few seconds more we still are in there and hey so that's 3-2 in the 5s favor let's now jump into first party apps the 5s messages we're going to have to go slow-mo on this I think it's a 5s enough chrome versus safari first party browsers same website Samsung was first loaded but yeah I'm gonna give this to Samsung camera the 5s definitely guys it's not just how fast the apps are open now if you see this this is me using the Samsung galaxy s4 and everything is a little jerky overall in terms of usage now this is me with the 5s and as you can see everything is a lot more fluid with the 5s I feel apples just maintain their phone a lot better it's not just with regards to how fast the app opens right it's overall how fluid it feels and I I've got to give it to apple here so as you guys can see apple seems to have done a much better job especially in terms of updates and not just how long their phone's been updated but also how good the quality of updates are so when it comes to laundry if you want a phone uh that's gonna last you longer you wanna spend a lot more time with the phone long term support apple greater than Samsung at least that's how it seems as of today now if there's something you want me to tweak if you feel I should have done this comparison differently what do you think I should have done differently let me know in the comments I will try to address that in future!
